ITHACA, N.Y. - Heading into day two of the NCAA MidEast Region Tournament, the Centenary wrestling team had advanced seven wrestlers in total, three still championship contenders.

During the semifinal round of the tournament, both Christopher Muce and Etiini Udott punched their ticket to nationals in Cleveland, Ohio, landing them in the final bout. Muce defeated Trisha MUK Slipper LUKS Multi Women's Rocco Russoof SUNY Oswego 5-0 to punch his ticket early on. Udott had a closer decision, 5-3 over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's Blake Bunce.

Max Nauta was also a semifinals competitor, but faced Ben Brisman of Ithaca College who he had seen earlier in the year at the National Duals. Brisman knocked Nauta into the consolation bracket with a 10-5 decision, where Nauta had the chance to wrestle back for third place and punch his ticket as well.

Centenary also saw success in the consolation bracket with Tyreek Staton, UGG Neumel Boot Chukka Men's China Tea r6gwrqU, and Nick Rivera. Both Staton and Rivera knocked wrestlers from The College of New Jersey out of the tournament, Staton by a close 9-8 decision, and Rivera by a quick 1:34 fall. Juliano continued on in the consolation bracket with a 5-2 decision over Ryan Marszal of SUNY Oneonta.

Still fighting for third place, and the final spot at nationals for their weight class were Staton, Nauta, Juliano, and Rivera. Staton faced Yoseph Borai of Steven's Institute of Technology and found himself on the losing end of a 5-4 decision, putting him in the fifth place match for the final round. Nauta had a rematch from his regular season in The College of New Jersey's Robert Dinger, where he once again came out victorious with a 6-5 decision, and landing him a spot in the third place match for the final round.

Juliano also grabbed a spot in the third place match at his weight after defeating Joseph Puca of SUNY Cortland 7-6. At 285 pounds, Rivera wrestled tough against Victor Raigoza of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, but ended up in the fifth place match after a 7-4 decision loss.

Heading into the final round, Staton was up against Christopher Tan of Ursinus College for the second time of the tournament. Staton ended his tournament with a sixth place finish after 3-2 decision. Nauta was next up for the Cyclones and faced Joe Ghione of Elizabethtown College. Wrestling a division one transfer, Nauta stepped up to the plate, but fell just short with a 10-4 decision placing him in fourth.

Seeing the finals of the region tournament for the first time Muce, the second seed, faced Sean Peacock, the number one seed, of the College at Brockport. Staying true to their seeds, Muce finished the tournament in second place and is headed to nationals.

In his third place match, Juliano was against Troy Seymour of SUNY Oswego. Going scoreless until the last period, a score of 2-0, one point coming from riding time, Juliano fell to fourth place.

Udott has qualified for nationals three times in his three year Centenary career, but this was the first time he was wrestling for first place in the final round of the region tournament. Seeded second, Udott upset the first seeded Triston EngleTobacco Sneaker Equipe Gola Fashion Dark Brown Men's Off white Suede IF767qwXx of the College at Brockport in sudden victory. A 2-2 score at the end of regulation put the two into overtime, but a lateral drop by Udott put Engle on his back and won him the match 4-2. Udott heads into nationals as the 197 pound Mideast Region Champion.

The last match of the day was Rivera's fifth place match against Austin DeanISOTONER Microterry Chukka Taupe Women's Clog Wider Width rBwrSg of the College at Brockport. Heading into his match, Centenary was tied for fourth place with Brockport at 87.5 points with The College of New Jersey in third with 88 points and SUNY Cortland sitting in sixth place with 87 points. Little did Rivera know, a win would guarantee Centenary third place over The College of New Jersey who did not have participants in the 285 pound weight class, and a loss would set Centenary up for a repeat of fifth place from last year. Rivera pulled out a 14-5 major decision over Dean and landed Centenary a third place finish as a team with 90.5 points.

With the team placing third, Assistant Coach Douglas Hamann was the Assistant Coach of the Year runner-up for the Mideast Region.
